14 get life term for killing man in Joypurhat

A Joypurhat court on Friday sentenced 14 people to life term in jail in a case filed over killing a man in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat around 20 years back.

Joypurhat District and Sessions Judge Court Senior Judge Md Nur Islam also fined the convicts Tk10, 000 each, in default, they will have to serve one year more in jail. 

All the convicts except one were present on the dock during the delivery of the judgment.

Those who were present on the doc are Abdul Mannan, Sanwar Hossain Shahaz Hossain alias Ida, Ramzan Ali, Faruk Hossain, Dulu Mia, Shahjahan Ali, Shafiqul Islam, Abdul Wahab, Anwar Hossain, Abdul Khaleque, Anisur alias Anisur Rahman, Delwar, Riaz alias Riaz Uddin Mandal alias Reyaz. 

All the convicts hail from Harendra and Kuwaitpur areas under Panchbibi upazila. 

According to the case statement, the accused attacked Bhola Mandal and his three brothers with locally-made weapons centring a previous enmity on July 5, 2003. 

The attack left the four brothers critically injured but Bhola Mandal succumbed to his injuries on way to Joypurhat Adhunik Jilla Hospital. 

Later, his brother Dola Manda filed the case against the accused. 

After completing legal procedures, the court handed down the judgment.
