Earlier, FSCD’s warehouse inspector Anwarul Islam said the blaze began in ‘Kacchi Bhai Restaurant’ at 9:50pm.
On information, eight firefighting units from several stations rushed to the spot, he said.
Later, four more units were added while members of the police and BGB extended their helping hands to bring the fire under control.
The origin of the fire could not be known immediately, the FSCD officer said, adding that details on this matter will be shared later.
21 people injured
At least 21 people, who sustained burn injuries, were hospitalized after the blaze raced through the restaurant in Bailey Road of the capital Dhaka on Thursday night.
Of them, 12 people have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospitla (DMCH) and the rest to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said DMCH’s police outpost in-charge Md Bachhu Miah.
Some injured were identified as Imran, 13, Shakil, 24, Ujjal, 23, Jobayer, 21, Omar Faruk, 43, Shakil, 22, Jewel, 30, Shezan, 22, Deen Islam, 30, and Iqbal Hossain, 24.
Ansar, BGB joined rescue operation
Three platoons of general Ansar and one of the specially trained Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) have been deployed to help with the fire and rescue operation.
They worked along with the fire service to bring the fire under control.
The Border Guard Bangladesh also joined the rescue operation.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner went to the spot to monitor the situation.
